Types of Australian Work Visas:

Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (Subclass 482)

 Purpose: Allows Australian employers to sponsor skilled workers for positions they cannot fill with local talent.

Streams:Short-Term Stream: For occupations on the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL); valid up to two years.

    • Medium-Term Stream: For occupations on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL); valid up to four years and offers a pathway to permanent residency.
    • Requirements:
      • A valid job offer from an approved Australian employer.
      • Relevant skills and qualifications for the nominated occupation.
      • Minimum of two years’ work experience in the related field.
      • Meet English language proficiency standards.
      • Age below 45 years at the time of application.

Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)

  • Purpose: A points-based visa for skilled workers not sponsored by an employer, state, or family member.
  • Requirements:
    • Nomination of an occupation listed on the MLTSSL.
    • Positive skills assessment for the nominated occupation.
    • Submission of an Expression of Interest (EOI) and invitation to apply.
    • Meet the points test threshold (currently 65 points).
    • Age below 45 years.
    • Competent English language proficiency.

Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)

  • Purpose: A points-based visa for skilled workers nominated by an Australian state or territory.
  • Requirements:
    • Nomination of an occupation on the relevant state or territory’s skilled occupation list.
    • Positive skills assessment.
    • Submission of an EOI and receipt of a nomination.
    • Meet the points test pass mark.
    • Commitment to reside and work in the nominating state or territory for a specified period.

Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462)

  • Purpose: Allows young adults to holiday and work in Australia for up to one year.
  • Eligibility for Indian Citizens:
    • As of 1 October 2024, up to 1,000 eligible Indian citizens aged 18 to 30 can apply annually.
    • Applicants must hold a valid Indian passport, have completed at least two years of post-secondary study, and possess functional English proficiency.
    • Applicants should be outside Australia at the time of application and grant.
    • Meet health and character requirements.
    • Not accompanied by dependent children.

Application Process:

  1. Skill Assessment: Obtain a positive skills assessment from the relevant Australian assessing authority for your occupation.
  2. Expression of Interest (EOI): Submit an EOI through the SkillSelect system, detailing your qualifications, experience, and other relevant information.
  3. State/Territory Nomination (if applicable): Apply for nomination from an Australian state or territory if your visa requires it.
  4. Invitation to Apply: If selected, receive an invitation to apply for the visa.
  5. Visa Application: Lodge your visa application within the specified timeframe, providing all necessary documentation.
  6. Health and Character Checks: Undergo required medical examinations and police checks.
  7. Visa Decision: Await the decision on your visa application.
